130 school dombra players took part in an online concert in Almaty

Shoqan Walikhanov Private School (Shoqan School) organized a large-scale online concert titled “Dombra – Dastan”, dedicated to the traditional spring holiday Kórisu Kúni (Day of Reunion).

The musical procession featured 130 students from the school, along with the founder of Shoqan School, Aselle Tasmagambetova. Special guests included laureates of the international Golden Time Talent competition — renowned dombra players Yernat Nauryz and Temirlan Olzhabay.

The online performance by the young dombra players was watched by over 1,200 viewers. A separate live stream was arranged specifically for the school’s students.

The “Dombra – Dastan” concert marked the launch of the traditional National Festival – 2026, which Shoqan Walikhanov Private School has been holding for several years.

“Today brings me special joy — playing the dombra together with our students. Our school is nurturing many talented children who approach Kazakh culture with genuine interest and deep respect. We strive not only to provide them with high-quality modern education but also to help them feel a strong connection to their roots.

We firmly believe that a school plays a vital role in shaping a child’s personality. It is impossible to build a future without knowing and honoring one’s history. That is why we place great emphasis on studying Kazakh culture, traditions, and above all, the Kazakh language,” noted Aselle Tasmagambetova, founder of Shoqan Walikhanov Private School.

The festival is dedicated to Kazakh traditions, culture, and values, offering children a living encounter with their national heritage through music, creativity, and interaction.

As part of the festival, interactive lessons focused on the school’s core values were held, along with master classes in traditional crafts. For high school students, a special meeting was organized with travel blogger Dastan Mukhamedrakhimov, winner of the international WIBA Awards 2026 in the category “Best Travel Blogger in the World.”

The festival concluded with a creative reflection session titled “Quraq Körpe” — an informational mosaic.

Quraq körpe (patchwork quilt) is a powerful symbol of generational continuity, national upbringing, and cultural memory. This traditional element of Kazakh culture embodies thriftiness, craftsmanship, and the people’s refined aesthetic sense, holding a special place in the national heritage.

During the festival, the children created a festive, colorful quraq körpe more than four meters long.

The school is convinced that knowledge and respect for one’s people’s traditions help the younger generation preserve cultural identity, maintain a connection to their roots, and confidently shape the future of the country.
